After initial hosing, 2 instant ice packs were bandaged around the area to reduce the swelling & help with pain relief whilst the vet was called.  John Dickinson from Chine House Veterinary Hospital was first to arrive.  He quickly realized that Yorkie was going to require hospital treatment & made all the necessary arrangements for him.

Luckily we had Gilliyan Carter (Equi-Therapy) & Jacqui Pacey (her student) to hand to help us.   After Yorkie was dressed & bandaged for his journey, we loaded him into the box & took him to Chine’s Hospital facility at Sileby.  There he entered the care of Mathew Barlow & remained there for 6 days being monitored for joint/tendon infections – it was touch & go for quite some time.

Amazingly, he made a fantastic recovery & returned home feeling rather sorry for himself, but much better. 

There were several weeks of vet visits & dressing changes, but when the bandages finally came off the wound was healing well. 

Gilliyan (Equi-Therapy) suggested ultrasound as a treatment to help the healing process & reduce the scar tissue.  As you can see from the pictures it healed better than anyone could have expected & we are so thrilled to have Yorkie back working in the centre today.
